Welcome to Key Stage 1 - Maple Class

This year we have 27 children in Maple Class. Year 1 and Year 2 learn together in Maple Class. Our teacher is Mr Custance. We are lucky to have teaching assistants to help us with our learning during the day. They are Mrs Mulberry, Mrs Bateman and Mrs Gaffa.

Each morning we learn phonics, maths and literacy. We also practice reading and handwriting at different times in the week. In the afternoon we take part in cross curricular topic lessons.

Each term our learning is based on a different topic. These are the main topics for this year:

We enjoy our PE lessons and each year we take part in local school tournaments including run for fun and gymnastics. We are lucky to have PE specialists visit our school to teach us lots of different sports like hockey, athletics and tennis.

Mrs Street is visits us on a Thursday and teaches us modern foreign languages. It is great fun learning familiar words in different languages like German!

Each Friday we are set tasks in our learning logs to complete at home. We can choose how we complete each piece of work. Sometimes we even do whole school creative homework tasks. We love to share our work from home and sometimes we exhibit our models and artwork to the rest of the school. We try to read to an adult every day at home or at school. We have a super school library and we are allowed to take a new book home every week to share with our families.
